This Puni NOVA Italian Single Malt whisky comes from the only whisky distillery in Italy. Since Italy is a grappa-producing country and not a region of Scottish whisky, the Puni distillery has repatriated many tips and traditions from Scotland - as has its traditional copper still. After a long period of experimentation, the first two Puni Single Malts were presented to the public: Nova and Alba. "Alba" not only means "sunrise" in Italian, but also means "Scotland" in Gaelic. The Puni distillery, named after the nearby river, is located in the mountains of South Tyrol. The raw materials that cause whisky, including barley, rye, and wheat, come from local farms. The Nova is distilled with clear spring water from the mountain and is partially aged in old bunkers dating from the Second World War. After a maturity of three years in old American bourbon casks, the whisky matures a few more weeks in old Limousin oak barrels. Thus, Puni Nova has not only the sweet and smoky notes of bourbon, but also the woody notes of European oak. Bottled in bottles created by Italian designer Christian Zanzotti, the two Puni whisky variants have received several awards.
