Something a little different from Tomatin's Cù Bòcan range here. These smoky whiskies, which are named after a spectral dog that haunts the Highlands where the distillery can be found, have been released since 2013. Rather than using lightly peated spirit, which Tomatin now produces for a week each year, this 1988 vintage whisky has ben matured in casks that previously held highly peated Islay single malt. 2,200 bottles have been released.
Nose: Roasted chestnuts, followed by a good whiff of heather and rosemary. Lighter hints of caramelised barley brings sweetness.
Palate: Smoke is persistent, with underlying hints of peach, almond and creamy vanilla.
Finish: After Eight Mints and a final few campfire embers.
