Immediately charming; the sweetness of almost caramelised red fruits, chocolate, chocolate truffle, raspberry and cherry, sweet seductive spices, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, warm chocolate – almost like being in front of a plate of chocolate profiteroles, flowers, carnations and red roses, peonies, lipstick balsamic, foundation, Virginia tobacco – the Camel non filter version, granny’s honeys and jams.

The palate as irresistible as the nose; a mountain of sensual fruits, slightly jammy, the determined surge of raspberry, cherry, rounded substance, smoothness, a rare opulence, all without the slightest effort, totally natural; and the obvious conclusion – you could drink litres of it. We’re reminded of the 1999 vintage, even if this is much more concentrated, due to the disconcerting ease in drinking these wines, to the obvious maturity, the frankness of the fruit; a delight.

Juicy, expressive finish, tannins just as you’d expect; absolutely natural length and persistence; this wine makes it look so easy and it is so good. Roast chicken, peas and fries, please!
