The finest Pinot Noir we offer, Citation Oregon is created by looking beyond limiting local geographic boundaries to attain the highest quality possible. After scouring the farthest reaches of the state and our own vineyards and valley, the most promising vineyard blocks were selected and fermented in small vessels. Punched-down twice a day by hand, the wine was later gently pressed to French oak barrels to age for the next fifteen months. Careful selection of the best barrels produced a small quantity of deep, luscious Pinot Noir.
Critic tasting note: (2006 vintage) "President and Founder Howard Rossbach says Citation is “The finest Pinot Noir we offer…by looking beyond limiting local geographic boundaries to attain the highest quality possible.” It is an intense selection of the best blocks from across the state of Oregon. Post ferment, it is aged in French oak barrels for fifteen months. The nose is scented with floral red-blue fruit and cinnamon spice. Nine years of bottle age has left this wine immediately drinkable, from its spicy, earthy cherry to its ultra-silky palate, where the tannins have long dispersed into the fabric of the wine. Perfectly balanced and an absolute pleasure to drink, this is as good as it gets right now. Mushroom-stuffed, oven-roasted chicken appeals to me, as does a Peking duck order.
