Critic tasting note
(2018 vintage) "One of 3 Barolo released by Chiara this year, with vinification and aging, is kept the same across the three to highlight the differences of the terroir. Barolo Mosconi comes from a single vineyard of a newly acquired property in Monforte d’Abla. This 0.8-hectare site rests at 370m and faces south. After a native ferment in stainless, with frequent pumping over and punch downs, all of the Baroli were aged in lightly toasted 30% new French oak for 24 months and one year further in the bottle before release. Fragrant wild cherry, medicinal raspberry, and roses fill the palate of this powerful Barolo, bedded with subtle candle wax and scented with scrubby herbs. The ample sticky tannins lead this to a ferrous, saline finish. Very much in youth, this has ample time ahead in the cellar. (Treve Ring)." - 93/100, Gismondi on Wine
Vineyard Notes
Barolo Mosconi is obtained from the purity vinification of the oldest vineyard belonging to the homonymous property located in Monforte d'Alba. The terrain is typically Helvetian with an older formation. It is clayey calcareous marl with a slightly gray color, alternating with siliceous sandstones. In some areas the presence of calcium carbonate and iron gives a warmer chromatic note and a slight tendency to pink. These soils, located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, give great structure and characteristics typical of long-aged Barolo.
Ageing
At least 2 years in small French oak barrels, lightly toasted and about 1 year of aging in the bottle.
