2015

Deep ruby red due to the high concentration of anthocyanins. Pronounced aromas of wild berries, interlaced with hints of vanilla and spicy notes on the finish: it’s complexity will amplify during the extraordinary longevity of this wine. Palate sensations confirm and emphasize the olfactory complexity, revealing even greater strength, texture and persistence. Its elegance is already evident, destined to turn into absolute harmony with cellaring.

Professional Ratings

95 Points -
This red offers depth and complexity, drawing you in with sensuous aromas of black cherry, black currant, violet, iron, leather and tar. Rich and smooth, backed by firm, refined tannins. Shows excellent balance and length. Best from 2021 through 2038.

91 Points -
Carpineto farms Sangiovese and other grapes in the most important wine appellations of Tuscany, including Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. This is the first time I am seeing a Gran Selezione from this far-reaching estate. The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione shows dark fruit, plum, prune and soft touches of potting soil. The wine delivers thick lines and dense contours that are even more evident in this hot and sunny vintage. This would be a nice Sangiovese to pair with a Tuscan peposo—meat stewed in tomato and red wine.

2020

Deep ruby in color, this wine exudes pronounced aromas of wild berries, interlaced with hints of vanilla and spicy notes. The palate is intense with great structure, texture and harmony, leading to a long and lingering finish.

Pairs perfectly with roasted, braised or grilled meats.

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck

A dark but transparent magenta, the 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is loaded with aromas of lavender, blackberry, toasted cedar, and crushed stones. Full-bodied, it’s juicy but light on its feet for this warm vintage, with plush tannins, a rounded, fresh mid-palate, and delicate, savory earth notes on the clean finish. This polished wine will do well with another year in the cellar.

92 Points - Wine Spectator

A muscular Chianti Classico highlighted by a mix of cherry, plum, loam and eucalyptus aromas and flavors. Gains support from a broad tract of dusty tannins as this extends on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2043.
