This wine has ripe fruit, acidity, balance and great quality. There is some viscosity in the mouth, and the barrel influence is well integrated 

Vintage -2013

The blue-fruit and floral character are phenomenal here with hints of lavender and violets in addition to walnuts. Full-bodied, yet tight and reserved with extremely polished fruit and chewy tannins. Love the austerity. Tension. Drink in 2020

Vintage - 2014

Notes of black cherry, cassis, graphite, incense, spice and rich soil preface an authoritative, intense wine with a lovely chassis of fine but firm tannins, underpinned by vibrant acidity: quintessential Dunn Howell Mountain. Under Mike Dunn's thoughtful stewardship, the family's wines have become more refined; largely thanks to more carefully chosen barrels. But while this wine may be less forbidding in its youth than the vintages of the 1990s, let it sleep for a decade to reveal its potential complexity.

Vintage - 2015

Coming from tiny yields and a hotter vintage, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a much more up-front, sweetly fruited, sexy wine compared to the more brooding, Bordeaux-like 2014, although there’s no shortage of structure and tannins in this 2015. Giving up a great nose of kirsch liqueur, blackcurrants, sandalwood, sweet tobacco, and exotic spices, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant texture, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. There’s just a subtle firmer edge to the tannins here, which is common in the vintage, that I suspect will always be there, but the fruit is beautifully pure, it has remarkable sweetness (ripeness, not residual sugar), great balance, and it’s just a singular wine in the lineup. It’s going to drink well for 30+ years. Best after 2022.
